Gordon & Sklar Early Childhood Center Program
Temple Beth El’s Early Childhood Center (ECC) opened its doors on September 10,
2001, with 41 families, and grew quickly to its full capacity of 140 families.
Under the capable direction of Director Terry Fierle, ECC is committed to nurturing
each child’s natural love of learning while integrating Jewish values and cultures,
all in a creative and stimulating environment. For more information regarding

The Early Childhood Center offers programming for children
ten months through six years of age, including the following:
Family Center
Our Mom & Me class for children 10–24 months of age offers
an opportunity for
both the child and the parent to socialize in a Jewish
setting. The Transition class, which meets twice a week
for two hours, is a parent-participatory class for families
that may need a little more time before leaving their
children in our youngest preschool class.
Preschool
The preschool curriculum is built with a balance between
academic and developmental philosophies of education
with an emphasis on the whole child.
It is designed to create an environment that encourages
a love for learning, with
a focus on:
- Jewish Values
- Secular and Religious School readiness
- Creativity
- Social Development
Group I
We offer classes two, three or five days per week for our youngest students. The goal of this class is to provide a positive first school experience for the child as he or she learns to separate from mom or dad each day.
Group II
Classes for this age group are offered two, three or five days per week. In addition to the morning program, children who are over three years of age and toilet trained can also become involved in the afternoon Enrichment Classes. These classes offer additional learning opportunities in areas such as music, math, science, drama and literature.
Pre-K Group
Classes for this age group are also offered two, three or five days per week. The goal of this class is to build on the skills attained in the younger preschool groups and to leave the ECC fully prepared for Kindergarten and our Religious School program. Children in this group can also take advantage of our afternoon Enrichment Classes (see above).
Kindergarten Class
The Kindergarten class meets daily from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The curriculum consists of reading, language arts, math, social studies, science and Jewish studies. Field trips are also scheduled throughout the year. In addition, Computer Instruction is taught on Monday and Wednesday mornings, Physical Education on Tuesday afternoons and Bible Story Time occurs every Friday afternoon.
Full Inclusion Preschool Project
The Full Inclusion Preschool Project (FIPP) is based on the philosophy that all children belong in a fully inclusive, general education environment no matter their challenges or special needs. Funded by private organizations and donors, FIPP’s goal is to enable children with special needs to actively participate in the same classroom with their typically developing peers. Our program offers services to toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners with — or at risk of — developmental delays or other disabilities.
